Perhaps one of the most striking lifestyle changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic is the mandatory use of face masks. Wearing a mask, especially when in close proximity to others, is imperative for slowing the spread of COVID-19.
While we are still in the midst of an ongoing battle with the global pandemic, it is insightful and rather surprising to note that a substantial percentage of the global audience wear a mask “sometimes”, “rarely” or never”, whereas studies reveal that if everyone wore a mask in public, 1/3rd of the lives affected could have been avoided.
Can wearing a MASK, save lives? Affirmative. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)in the U.S. reviewed the latest science regarding face masks and the results were straightforward – MASKS ARE A CRITICAL TOOL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19. Masks are the single most effective way of reducing the probability of transmission, and probably the only barrier between us and the deadly virus. It's hard to argue that the new normal isn't inconvenient, but the fact is undeniable – wearing a face-mask can save lives.
Another major benefit of wearing face masks is to protect the people around you, especially in the current scenario, where each one of us may have been exposed to someone carrying the virus, while at work / grocery stores / restaurants / airports or any other crowded place.
Healthcare officials from World Health Organization (WHO), and local institutions from all around the world are thereby urging people to wear face masks, to prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 via respiratory droplets, which can, otherwise, easily enter through the mouth and nose to infect new hosts.
Wearing a Mask is an extremely important habit that each one of us should be applying to protect self and the community at large.
